What is it to see, to feel, to be?
In a culture dominated by the visual, we might feel detached from the world around us. The visual perception is also used as a tool for distinction. The visual perception controls, labels and separates us from each other and from the environment. We are being categorised and controlled by the way we look.
In this project “Reverse”, we are wondering how we could find different or reverse ways of perceiving and how to express them. We have tried to give more space to the inner visions and feelings rather than to the appearances. We are also thinking about how we could feel better about ourselves and how not to be controlled or judged by the way we look by the outside world.
In the process of making these images, we have been interested in the sense of touch and the bodily perception. We have also set up a collaborative painting project that welcomes everyone to join in the painting process. You are invited to approach painting by feeling, touching and imagining. We hope that the gallery space could serve as a sketch: an interactive, evolving space that can offer new ideas or thoughts.

Asbestos Art Space is proud to present a clash of two sides of the art world: streets and academics. The exhibition will showcase a group of young artists with contrasting backgrounds working as a collective. The group was given carte blanche to create an artistic ensemble to reflect their views on the entire spectrum of life - prepare to question the art world hierarchies and conventions and return to the core of art making!

Noora Ylönen: Nocturne

Nocturne on moniaistinen näyttelykokonaisuus, jossa yhdistyvät Ylösen unimaailmaa ja tiedostamattoman kohtaamista käsittelevät maalaukset sekä Annabel Kajetskin ja Otto Kyrklundin monitasoinen ääniteos. Nocturne on Noora Ylösen toinen soolonäyttely.

TUKINÄYTTELY YDINVOIMAN VASTAISEEN TYÖHÖN

Joukko taiteilijoita järjestää näyttelyn tukeakseen käynnissä olevaa ydinvoiman vastaista työtä. Myytävistä teoksista saatavista tuloista puolet menee teoksen tekijälle ja puolet ydinvoiman vastaiseen työhön. Fennovoiman uuden Pyhäjoen ydinvoimalan rakentaminen on saanut kritiikkiä monilta eri tahoilta. Säteilyturvakeskus STUK on ilmoittanut olevansa huolissaan Fennovoiman ydinvoimalahankkeen turvallisuuskulttuurista ja vaatii yhtiöltä avoimempia johtamiskäytäntöjä sekä lisäselvityksiä ydinvoima-alan osaamisesta ja kokemuksesta. Voimalan pääsuunnittelijan, Rosatomin tytäryhtiö Atomproektin työmailla Sosnovyi Borissa sekä Valko-Venäjällä Ostrovetsissa on sattunut onnettomuuksia, jotka ovat liittyneet kiirehtimiseen ja huolimattomuuteen. Niin Helsingin Sanomien kuin ympäristöjärjestö WWF:n toteuttamien kyselytutkimusten mukaan vastaajista Suomessa vain kolmasosa kannattaa ja puolet vastustaa Fennovoiman ydinvoimalaa Pyhäjoelle.
Pyhäjoella toimineen protestileirin, useiden mielenosoitusten ja tapahtumien järjestäminen on lisännyt asian tunnettavuutta.Tällä näyttelyllä taiteilijat haluavat osoittaa tukensa kamppailulle.

Asbestos Art Club is a recurring event held by Asbestos Collective. Each Art Club presents an audiovisual production and sound. Art Club Vol. 1 Had an interactive art peace called Touch by artist Tuomas Tuomiranta and sounds provided by DJ Velkakierre.
